1) You need to wear ski clothing which keeps you dry and warm. The best number one tip we can give you is to always concentrate on keeping your head, hands and feet warm and dry.

2) Keep the chill off your ears by hiring a hat or headband. This is essential as most body heat is lost through the top of your head.

3) Avoid blisters by choosing thick socks with a stretchable fibre which don't crease and make uncomfortable lumps.

4) Hire gloves which you can comfortably hold your poles in but are not too tight.

5) Try to wear three basic layers of clothing. Thermal underwear to draw the moisture away from your body, keeping you warm and dry; a lightweight item of clothing to insulate and finally an outer layer which is breathable but waterproof.

6) The ski clothing you hire should always be made from wool, silk or polypropylene in order to absorb moisture effectively and remain dry. Avoid cotton at all costs as it dries slowly and becomes heavy when wet.

7) Always ensure that the ski clothing you hire is comfortable. If you are not comfortable inside then you are unlikely to be comfortable undertaking exercise in the form of skiing outside surrounded by snow.

8) Choose sunglasses or goggles that offer 100-percent protection against UV rays and are large enough to shield your eyes from wind, blowing snow and wind chill.

9) Always carry sun cream and lip salve with SPF as the wind and sun can really damage your skin and lips.

10) Buy a ski pass holder. It's such a small thing but it will make your life a lot easier.
