Skiing For Beginners

If you are planning your first skiing experience and thinking about hiring your ski clothing then you will benefit from looking at some of our guidelines below.

Your first experience of doing anything can be stress-free and hard work. Skiing is certainly no exception to this, but by following a few of our beginner guidelines we guarantee that the main emphasis will be on fun and not stress.

Skiing Lessons

It is advisable to take a few lessons at a dry ski slope or real snow slope before you go, as you will then benefit from not being an absolute beginner.

Making sure that you are correctly instructed on the actual slopes is also a must.

By joining a ski school you are guaranteed to have a lot of fun whilst being safe on the slopes.

Investing in skiing lessons is really important to your future as a skier.

Equipment

Making sure that you are correctly attired and kitted out is likewise imperative.

Hiring the ski clothing rather than buying is always the best idea for complete beginners.

The basic equipment you will need to hire is as follows:

Boots - Tight fitting boots are best as the boot lining expands during skiing

Skis - Should be short, soft and shaped

Hats - Warm fleece hats that can cover your ears are preferable

Gloves - Should be worn as much as possible as you will hurt your hands when you fall without them

Sunglasses - The sun is far stronger on the slopes and so they must provide 100% Ultra Violet (UV) protection. Always look for the "UV400" symbol. As a beginners you are bound to fall over frequently, so don't pack your favourite pair

Clothes - Make sure you have three different layers - a base layer, insulating layer and a protective layer. Every day you will be going from extremes of hot to cold.

Goggles - You will need these if it is snowing or raining, if you are a contact lens wearer or if you have very watery eyes
